Of the guys I knew outside of my core friends, John was definitely one of my favs.  We had home room and a few classes and often would try to keep me awake by poking me or having someone else sitting close to me poke me.  He was fun, and I remember thinking how self confident he was, as well as thoughtful to others, and had this sense of direction in life.  In school I was amazed at how focused he was and yet was far from being "stiff" or "stuffy".  While on the police department I got to know him quite well in the Criminal Justice System and he was well respected and very energetic.  I know he was very involved in the community and I saw him as a future Mayor of Bloomington.  I was very saddened that we, and the community, lost a very good person.

I was so sorry to hear of John's passing.  He was such a nice guy and had a great sense of humor. I never saw him treat anyone with anything but respect. He was a good choice for class president.  I particularly remember working on the senior class play with John.  I sort of feel like a widow since he played my husband in it (Dear Me, The Sky Is Falling).
