Fifty-plus years of Illinois winters were enough. Put the big family home on the market, and decluttered (aka downsized). Rented storage unit to house extra clutter. A year passed. Finally, a SOLD sign appeared in the front yard. Hired movers to take beloved possessions from north Normal to a 2-bedroom apartment in south Bloomington. Job estimated at 4-5 hours. Nine hours later, determined further downsizing was necessary. Being tired of downsizing, rented a garage and filled it up with treasured possessions from storage unit, plus other assorted items.
A year later, decided where to live in Florida and rented a "pod" for the move. Downsized again, as all beloved possessions would not fit in the little pod. Packed (stuffed-to-the-gills) the pod, which required even more downsizing. One or two days later, loaded two vehicles and drove south.....to sunny Florida.....in July. It is not a dry heat in Florida.
Note to Self: Should another move be needed, must downsize!
Fast Forward Five Years:
We live in Bradenton, FL, which is just a few miles north of Sarasota. It is about a 20 minute drive to the beautiful Gulf of Mexico -- Bradenton Beach, Anna Maria Island, Long Boat Key. Best winters ever!
Mike and I love cruising and travel in general. One reason we moved to Florida was to be nearer to cruise ports. Since the pandemic has thrown a wrench into our travels, we have been patiently waiting until we can drive, fly, or sail somewhere -- anywhere! In late June, 2021, I tossed my own wrench into the mix by falling and breaking my ankle (tibia and fibula). Surgery was July 7. I am immobile unless I can travel by knee scooter. I will be undergoing 12 weeks of physical therapy, meaning it's not likely I will be able to attend the reunion. I submitted my reservation in mid-June, so if I whiz through the PT, maybe my plans will change.
